Purpose
WAYFC supports Washington’s young and beginning farmers and farmworkers by offering social and educational events, advocating for access to critical resources, and facilitating action toward an abundant, just and food-secure future.
We are a grassroots organization both for and by young & beginning farmers.
The average age of farmers in America is 58. Millions of acres of land will be up for transition in the next decade.
We are a chapter of the National Young Farmers Coalition (NYFC). Along with NYFC, we strive to raise awareness about issues and barriers facing young farmers, to share relevant resources, and advocate politically for beginning farmers at the local and national level.
We recognize that we farm on indigenous land and that the history of American agriculture is explicitly linked to racial exploitation. We believe in a future of food that is environmentally sustainable and socially just.
